| YOUR CYCLING DAY: |
A typical Bike & Cruise day
in The Caribbean starts by disembarking the ship
in the morning. Bikes will be ready on the pier;
your gear will be loaded in the support vehicles
along with snacks, water and lunches. In most
ports we will start the ride from the pier. On some days we will van or bus to the start of the ride. Several
rest and re-group stops are planned along the
route to fill your water bottles, have a snack
or take some photos. The majority of our ride
will be in the morning. About Noon we will arrive
at a white sand beach for a two hour lunch break
with time for swimming, snorkeling and fun in
the sun. With lunch behind us, we will either ride or van back to the ship. Upon arrival
at the ship, you will have some time to shop,
sightsee and mingle with the locals at the open
markets. Sound like fun??? Sure is!!!
Our Caribbean tour is the most challenging
of all our tours. You should be a moderate to
advanced level cyclist to really enjoy this tour.
So plan your training schedule ahead to get ready
for your biking vacation. Bikes are available
through Bike & Cruise or you can bring your
own bike. The terrain will vary from
flat to moderately rolling hills to short, steep climbs
with some off road portions as well as paved roads.
Most of the steepest climbs are short or walkable. What goes up will come down. There are also
some great downhill portions as your reward. With
this type of terrain don't be fooled by the seemingly
conservative 25-30 miles per day. It will definitely
feel like more. It's a fun workout with plenty
of cycling to enjoy the fabulous views that overlook
the perfect beaches, crystal clear waters, quaint
villages, fields of sugar cane, lush, tropical
flora and fauna and old sugar mills. These islands
are amazingly rich with history. This is our 20th
year of sharing the experience of cycling the
Caribbean islands.
