SOUTHERN CARIBBEAN TOUR INTINERARY

Sunday – Board at 12:30pm and enjoy lunch on the ship.  We’ll see you at our meeting to discuss the rides and events for the week!  BON VOYAGE!!!

Monday & Tuesday – Enjoy sea days to relax, get some sun, workout, explore the ship and meet your fellow bikers.

Wednesday -ST. THOMAS - A KAYAK, HIKE & SNORKEL MULTI ECO-ADVENTURE

A unique, multi-eco experience awaits you! We'll start our journey at 8:30am, leaving your afternoon free to browse in the alluring ambience of downtown Charlotte Amalie, the shopping Mecca of the Caribbean. Stroll down all the alleyways from Front Street to Back Street and all that's between! Oh ya, first our adventure……A short scenic drive will take us to our kayaking departure point.
We will kayak among the many small islands of the Inner Mangrove lagoon. Stop and learn why the Mangrove Ecosystem plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy offshore coral reefs, reef fish populations, and shoreline stabilization.
Next we'll hike on the pristine, deserted 15 acre island of Cas Cay, in the Virgin Islands Park System. Explore the mangrove forest and observe hermit crabs. Enjoy many breathtaking views from coral and shell beaches, at the base of volcanic cliffs and marine tidal pools, complete with a rare geologic blow hole.
We'll end our tour with snorkeling at a coral-fringed mangrove nursery with easy beach entry and snorkel in the clear protected waters. Guides offer snorkeling instruction, point out the marine life and interpret the diverse mangrove ecosystem. All equipment is included. We'll be dropped off back at the ship for a quick lunch then you can shop til you drop.

Thursday Dominica – 8:00am – 6:00pm - Disembark at 8:30am. The guides will meet us and drive us up the narrow mountain road, you'll be glad you're seeing the spectacular views by van! Once toward the top we'll start biking downhill on a sweet rural road lined with banana trees, palms, fichus and plenty of lovely tropical flowers. We'll stop to sample the local fruits at a roadside stand. Riding on winding roads with thick, lush forested areas we'll arrive at the river for our lunch stop. Cross the shallow river and have a soak in the natural hot spring, then take a leisurely body float down the river. Back on the bike we'll have a few short climbs back to the ship. Views of the gorgeous Caribbean Sea will keep you going. Open market shopping is always fun upon arrival back to town.

Friday BARBADOS

Your day here starts with a short walk from the ship through the shops in the pier building. Once through, our bikes will be loaded on a truck and you will board a bus. Enjoy a 45 minute scenic drive along the Caribbean Sea and some of the fanciest hotels in Barbados to the northern interior until we reach Farley Hill Park. Now a mansion in ruins after a fire struck around 1965, it's tucked away in a forest of mahogany trees; it was the former home of Sir Graham Briggs, a wealthy planter and legislator. Built in 1818, when finished it was the most impressive mansion in Barbados. High on a hill you'll see the stunning view of the rugged Atlantic coastline. The ride starts out with a nice downhill but a quick left turn brings us to two short steep hills. After your conquest, the reward is a nice meander in the rolling countryside through fields of sugar cane with outstanding views of the Caribbean Sea. Expect some bumpy pavement. A short ride on the shouldered Hwy leads us to a right turn toward our beach destination. This is a very fun road to cycle. It's mostly downhill or flat through the thickets of fig trees and rock walls that have been carved out to make the road. You'll see how the Barbadians live throughout this rural ride. Roughly, it's about 15 miles. Once at the beach, we have lunch and time for a swim or there is some good snorkeling at this underwater park. We will bus back to the ship so it's a great day to enjoy the local brew, Banks. Have fun shopping back at the pier for an hour or more before it's time to get back on board.

Saturday –ST. LUCIA

After disembarking the ship in the morning we will be joined by motorcycle police who will escort us through town past the local spice and basket markets. Undoubtedly this will be a spot you will want to browse in after our ride and maybe enjoy the local brew, Piton. Once past the airport we ride out on the shouldered road for a couple of miles. A right turn leads us into a rural area with lush vegetation and through the local neighborhoods. One big climb looms ahead. After you conquer itthe rolling road really flows into the countryside. You'll pass the International Cricket Stadium. After a bit we'll hook up with the hwy for a short while. With our police escorts still in tow, they guide us to our beach destinations for our picnic at a nice shaded park. The swimming is nice at this little cove and you can take a short hike up the hill to the old fort for a great view. From there it's about 4 rolling miles back to the ship. You have about 2 hours in the afternoon to poke around at the markets.

Note: The police escort accompanies us to stop and slow down the traffic in certain areas. We appreciate their help.

Sunday- ST. MAARTEN –We offer you two different options of rides depending on your ability. Both rides start in the morning from the pier.

1) THE HISTORICAL TOUR: Leaving the pier you'll bike beside the bay and head toward downtown Philipsburg. Once on the boardwalk, they'll be stops along the way at various important sites which shaped the history in St. Maarten.
You will learn about our famous old Courthouse, the Passagrahan Inn and view a typical old Gingerbread style cottage on your way to Fort Amsterdam at Little Divi Bay, the scene of a famous battle with New York's first governor, Peter Stuyvesant. You will pass the downtown beach and shopping area to scope it out for later!
After a walk up to the Fort, a stretch and an incredible view of the Great Bay, you will pedal back along the Boardwalk for a cold drink at the Taloula Mango Restaurant on the Beach. Well bike back to the ship and your afternoon is free to taxi to a gorgeous beach or just wander the downtown beach with all its shopping opportunities. The distance is an easier paced ride about 10 miles with a short hike.

2) The more challenging option is 18 miles with option for more, but has several big, but not too long hills coming and going. This one is for avid cyclists. We'll head over to Orient Beach via Coralita. . We will follow a coastal road through Oyster Pond which allows beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean and the neighboring islands like St. Barth's, Tintemarre etc.., and then on an inner paved road through French Quarter, before the last climb into Orient. Most of the roads are paved but there are some spots of gravel road. Once at Orient Beach you can take a rest at Booboo Jam Restaurant on the beach for a cold drink. At that point the group can decide how much further they would like to ride, it could be all the way around the island for a total of 30 miles before heading back to the ship for the remainder of your afternoon. No support van accompanies the group today, but can be called if needed.

Monday & Tuesday – AH! Well deserved sea days to rest your legs! - Time to sleep in, relax and pack! You may want to treat yourself to a massage or one of the many treatments offered by the spa. Relish your last days on this glorious ship. Work out in the gym, enjoy the pool, try out the jogging track, find a quiet spot with your book, enjoy the mesmerizing sea or enjoy one of the many activities the ship has to offer. Definitely attend the Chocoholic Buffet! We'll have a Farewell Cocktail gathering on the last evening. It's been a lovely cruise.

Wednesday

Debarkation Day - No need to rush off the ship! We will arrive in Miami at 8:00am but you can have a relaxing morning and disembark at your leisure by 10:30am. Disembarkation will begin about 8:30am for those who have early flights. If you are going home today book your flight after Noon.
