ALASKAN TOUR DESCRIPTION

Sunday - Board the ship at 1:00pm, the ship sails at 4:00pm.  We’ll have a bike meeting in the early evening and dinner together.

Monday Relax and enjoy your day at sea to explore the ship and take time to absorb the beauty of The Inside Passage.

Tuesday – Juneau 2:00pm-10:00pm- It’s about a 22 mile ride.  We’ll disembark the ship about 2:15, meet our guides and take a van out to the start of the ride.  You’ll see the outskirts of Juneau on our way.  A highlight of this day is riding where only the locals can go. We’ll enter in the rainforest area close to the lake on a bike path.  You’ll ride right through an area where glaciers ruled.  A stop at a quaint church gives you an overlook of Mendenhall Lake and Glacier.  We’ll ride through The University and down the highway with Mendenhall Glacier looming in the foreground.  As we approach the Mendenhall Glacier viewing area, watch out for bears!  We’ve had some sightings.  You’ll have about 45 minutes to walk around and check this out.  Then you’ll be ready to head to dinner at the Salmon Bake.  Enjoy the buffet and some local entertainment.  Take the short hike up to the falls and see the entrance to an old gold mine.  Salmon will be spawning in the stream next to the pathway to the falls.  Back in town you will have some time to shop and then head to The Red Dog Saloon for a “Duckfart.”  It’s a hangout that’s quite an experience.

Wednesday – Skagway 7:00am – 8:00pm – Then it’s on to Skagway where we start out on The White Pass Railroad up the Old Yukon Trail.  Experience tunnels, trestles, waterfalls, valleys and mountains on our way to Fraser, BC on this narrated train trip.  It’s about an hour and a half train trip.  Then we’ll hop on the bikes and make our way 28 miles back to Skagway.  The ride starts out with a gradual 6 mile climb to the top of the pass, and then it’s mostly downhill with some rollers.  What an exhilarating ride!  There will be great views of Dead Horse Gulch and Horse Tail Falls and you’ll ride over a suspension bridge in motion.  We are here until 8pm so you will have plenty time to browse in the shops.  This town has the true flavor of The Gold Rush Days.  Visit the Gold Rush Cemetery or the brothel at The Red Onion Saloon and take the upstairs tour!

Thursday – Cruising Glacier Bay – Cruising Glacier Bay is a definite highlight of your trip.  Be out on deck with your cameras ready!  A National Park Ranger will be on board to narrate out adventure and answer questions.  There will also be an on board presentation of the glaciers.  This is quite a day.  You will see several glaciers as we journey in and out of Glacier Bay.  You may even get to see them calve.  Listen for the echoes of cracking ice that sounds like thunder in the distance.  Watch for wildlife in the water, on the shoreline and small islands as the ship glides through the aqua colored glacial waters.

Friday – Ketchikan – 7:00am-1:30pm - We’ll bike right from town to start this lovely 20 mile ride on bike paths and a rural road through forested area.  We’ll have a stop at the Totem Park to see them and hear stories about the totems.  All along you’ll have gorgeous views of the inlet both ways.  We’ll turnaround at the waterfall and head back to town.  This is a pretty flat ride with a few low rollers along the way to keep it interesting!. You will want to visit Creek Street with the famed Madam Dolly’s house in the Old Red Light District.  Her house is now a museum with a very interesting past.  Take in the self guided tour, ride the tram up to the hotel for a view of the whole town, and then walk back down “The Married Man’s Trail” before boarding the ship for your evening at sea and our farewell gathering and dinner.

Saturday – Victoria – 6:00pm – 12:00am - You’ll have the early part of the day to sleep in, relax and enjoy the ship.  The ship will dock at 6:00pm in Victoria.  We will disembark about 6:15pm, meet our guides and go for a great ride.  We will do about 18 miles through Victoria.  This is a very scenic ride winding its way through beautiful rural and residential areas and will follow along the coast line with great views. You’ll see colorful gardens and the Governors’ Mansion. We’ll end at the bike shop. There’s  a place to have a bite or a farewell toast with everyone.  You have a choice to walk back to the ship through town and marvel at Victoria lit up at night or van back to the ship after the ride has ended.  The ship sails at Midnight.

Sunday – Debarkation Day -   The ship will arrive in Seattle about 7:00am.  No need to rush off the ship, disembark at your leisure by 10:30am. Disembarkation will start about 8:30am for those with early flights.  If you are going home today book your flight after 11:30am to allow enough time to arrive at the airport.
